Guinea Pig Pups NOW AVAILABLE
These are my first and only litters of Guinea Pig Pups.
Guinea pigs are a social, herd animal. They do better in groups. A single Cavy may become lonely and depressed. You may want to consider 2 babies.
Adequate Cage And Space
The minimum cage size requirements for guinea pigs is 8 square feet, which is what I require. (I will ask for a set up picture before you take your piggies home.) Bigger is better. I have different cages I use and like.
- C & C cages, (SONGMICS Metal Mesh Play Pen , approx. 10 sqft are are great option, and less spendy that cages purchased at a pet store, often not large enough for even one little piggy. They are easy to put together, and you have options on how to shape it or how many levels you want. They can also be easily added on to later if you like. They will need some Coro-last on the potions and around the sides to keep them safe.
- Another option is a Guinea Habitat Guinea Pig Cage by Midwest. Those also can be added on to later. They do come in plus size, which is my minimum requirement.
Both cages are available on Amazon for around $60-$70. Plus CoroPlast for the C&C cages (available at any Hardware Store).
A basic diet for cavies contains an unlimited amount of Timothy Hay (I buy my Hay from KMS Hayloft) , Timothy pellets ( Small Pet Select), and at least 1.5 cups of fresh vegetables and lettuce per pig. Fresh vegetables are vital for their health, as cavies need a high amount of vitamin C. I buy SMALL PET SELECT pellets (also online) as they have twice the amount of vitamin C in their pellets than other brands do.
If you have an allergy to hay, you may want to reconsider buying a Guinea Pig!
